Normally, students working to change their major into Physical Sciences must take requirements ( listed here) for a letter grade. Students on academic probation may enroll in courses with the P/NP option in the Spring 2020 or Summer 2020 terms.Students will be able to change their grade option, both letter grade to P/NP and P/NP to letter grade through the end of the 10th week (before 5PM)-in accordance with the office of the Associate Dean for the school/program.(Physical Sciences will support student requests thru Week 10, as best we can.) You will need to check with those programs directly. Graduate/Medical/Professional school programs make their own determination as to how they assess courses taken P/NP this is not a question we can answer for you.If your (Major) GPA is below 2.000, getting a P will not raise your (Major) GPA. P/NP courses will not affect your GPA, including your Major GPA.If you are retaking a course that was originally for a LETTER GRADE, you must retake the course for a LETTER GRADE ONLY, no exceptions.Writing courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better ("P" for pass, if taking it for P/NP).However, if a course is taken for a letter grade, the minimum grade needed for credit would be at least a "D-." This is especially important to note for graduating students, who are trying to fulfill their last requirements to graduate. It is the student's choice as to whether they wish to take the course for letter grade or P/NP.
